I have been scanning some old negatives of my late father's, dating back to
the late 1920s.
One of them is an old car but I couldn't enhance the negative enough to
bring up a name.
As nobody seems to put photos here, I thought there may be some rule that I
didn't want to break so I have
posted it at http://www.geocities.com/shonoel/Antiques.html
The photo was taken in New Zealand (note old type NZ number plate).
Many thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

If you find out, please post it -- I'd be interested in knowing. I want to
say Alvis but the radiator badge isn't round on those.

I tried enlarging the photo, but there aren't enough contrasts to make a

lot out. There's an "H" on the front right hub cap and it's hard to
see, but the radiator emblem has a hint of the same.

That's the ticket, then. Based on a photo I have, I'll go out on a limb and
say it's a 1922 Hupmobile. I can't see the radiator surround exactly, but
the fenders, louvres and that odd bump to the cowl match.

To follow up, here are other examples. I think this is what it is:

Thanks Rabbit
Sure looks similar doesn't it?
Your appears to have wooden wheels but I guess the wire wheels in my photo
may have
been an option.
Radiator cap is also different, perhaps yours had one of them new fangled
temperature gauge thangs?
Great photo.

The wheels and rad caps were generally options, yes. I'll see if I can find
some better photos, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

Its actually a 24 or 25 Model R Hupmobile. It differs from the earlier ones
with its plated radiator surround and longer fender valance on the bottom of
the front fenders. The 23 models back did not have these.

And if you look at the back of an old US $5.00 bill you will see the
same car.
Rabbit says no, but I still say it's a Hupmobile.

Why, that's your great-uncle Herbert, of course. I recognized him right
away.

Actually, it's a $10, and it ain't just Rabbit what says so.

http://www.treas.gov/education/faq/currency/portraits.shtml#q6

From the U.S. Treasury's web site:

What make and model of cars are shown on the ten-dollar bill?

There are four cars represented on the reverse of the ten-dollar bill. None
of these automobiles are of any specific year, make, or model, but rather a
composite representation of the style of automobiles manufactured in the
early 1920s

You would think that old farts like myself would learn lessens in
life.....Like not putting a dog (laika) againest a Rabbit. But I did it
again and was wrong.....again.
I have a spanking coming....
From the Hupmobile Club:

Is the car on the US $10.00 a Hupmobile?
No, the periodic rumor that the car on the old-style US $10 bill is a
Hupmobile has been strongly denied by the US Mint and the Bureau of
Engraving. The original engraver used a composite of many US cars so as
not to favor any one manufacturer.
