We often hear of British car discussion forum and British car
shows, but I've never heard of a Japanese car show.
For cars that are supposed to be so good, what happened to all
the old Japanese cars from the sixties an the seventies? They
sure are not still on the road

I hear you there. Every once in a while I might see a Datsun 2000 Roadster |
from the mid 60's, or maybe a 240Z from the 70's (usually half finished) but
I don't recall the last Honda, Toyota or Suburu I've seen from that
vintage.

At least on the Datsun end of things, there are still lots of them around
and plenty of enthusiasts. Every year there are major shows on the west
coast - Mt. shasta all Datsun meet, Mt. Shasta Roadster show, Solvang
Roadster show to name just a few. There is a Datsun Roadster mailing list
and webring, numerous Z car and 510 websites and mailing lists as well. A
quick search on the web with Datsun and Z car, 510, or Raodster will find
you gobs of links.
Hell, even here in Ohio ( Rust Belt Central) our club ZROC had about 50
vintage Z's, Roadsters, and 510's show up for a get together at the Sprint
Vintage Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio Road Race Course this past summer.
Datsun had a SERIOUS commitment to road racing in the 60's and 70's, and
literally owned G,E,and F production from 66-79 with the Roadster, 510, and
Z. Bob Sharp's ( west coast) or Peter Brock's ( east coast) team took first
or second in those classes every one of those years up against serious
contender from british and german makes.

http://www.datsun.org/fairlady/ great site with lots of roadster racing
photos
www.311s.org there's a Roadster registry with 1337 Roadsters registered
My Datsuns ( 280Z and '66 1600 Roadster) are a bit more radical, combining
inexpensive Chevy horsepower with superb NISMO ( nissan motor sports )
suspension and handling!

Re: British Car Forum |

That's true, except for one of the sporty models on occasion,
I've never seen a Camry or Accord type.
I believe the reason we do not see old Japanese cars is two
fold. The first being the type of buyer that buys the vehicle.
Seems to me they are the type of buyer that buys their cars like
they buy their appliances. The don't seem to be the type that
simply like to drive or are car nuts. They are those that
subscribe to magazines like 'Good Housekeeping' and 'Consumer
Reports, rather than like magazines like 'Car and Driver, and
'Road and Track' like that us car nuts prefer to read Secondly
Japanese cars can cost as much as 20% to 30% more to buy new so
buyers run them to death. The maintenance and parts costs are
much higher as well so that when one needs an expensive repair
they simply get junked, because the cost of repair is not worth
the investment.

Once in a great while I'll see a Subaru Brat rolling down the highway.
Usually in deplorable shape though. I'll bet that I haven't seen a
Honda CVCC in at least ten years or so.
