Window tinting |

I was at the dealer today, and he said that BMW recommends that you not tint the
windows, and if you do you must not use a metallic film. Has anyone else heard
this?
Thanks, Rick DeBay

I know on my 325, I wasn't able to use metallic film on the rear
window especially as it would interfere with the embedded antenna. I
wound up using a ceramic film. Wasn't able to tint as dark as I
wanted, but it was better then nothing.

you can use metallic tint, it might just interfere with radio reception.
personally, I'd just go for a charcoal black tint. I have 5% on my tint and
I've had no problems. one of the best quality tints is Llumar Tint. Dont go
the cheap route.

Re: Window tinting |

When I bought my '94 530i it had the windows tinted already. But I
can't stand the tinting in the back window as it really interferes with
my vision, especially at night. The tinting film has too much air
around the rear window defroster lines causing distortion.
I would like to remove it, but at the same time I'm afraid that in doing
so I'll damage the defroster. Any ideas for doing this without causing
damage?

Here is the best way EVER, warm up the glass with a big shop light or the
sun if it is still in your area, then take pure ammonia in a spray bottle,
generously cover the inside of the window, immediately take a precut black
trash bag and place that on the inside of the window so that it sticks to
the window, remove all air bubbles and let stand for 15 with the lights
still on it. After 15 min take a razor blade and peel back a corner of the
tint, it should come off in one big piece and no glue left on the window

doesnt everyone know ammonia takes off window tinting? that's why
installers tell you not to use windex on tinted glass.
