Hi all. I think I will finally get around to putting my three-deuce
Offy manifold on my '50 Ford flathead, but I have been told that three
Strombergs are too much carburetion for a stock 239 cubic inches.

Anybody got thoughts on how best to seal off the middle carb? I like
the way the manifold looks (plus that's what I got!) so I really would
like to use it. Also, what might be the best jets for the two end
97's?

Offy makes a blockoff plate, Speedway should have it or make your own from a
piece of
1/4" aluminum and polish it. Use 50 or 51 jets for 2 carb setup if I
remember right.

Another method if you want to keep the look of 3 carbs is to dummy the
center carb by sealing the throttle plates to the base plate and any vacuum
connections closed with epoxy. Obviously a junker would be the best to do
this to. Then modify the linkage so it only slides past the center carb
throttle shaft arm or remove it completely. Finally sweat solder the fuel
fitting shut to that carb and then screw it back into the fuel block and
reattach the fuel hose. It will appear that all 3 carbs are being used when
in fact the middle one is doing nothing at all.

More than a few guys have also done it the other way around and only run on
the center carb with the outer ones dummied.

Very thin piece of aluminum works under the carb as a block off with that
setup also.

The way I did it (1941 Ford) in 53 was to
take out the accelerator pumps in the two
end carbs and use a progressive linkage
that works the middle carb normally and
opens the front and rear carbs when the
middle carb is at three quarter throttle.
Or do as Kustom suggested and put a
plate or just a pad of gasket material
under the front and rear carbs. You
could take out the throttle plates on the
unused carbs so as not to hit the spacer
plate or gasket material.
And as suggested block of the fuel rail
to the two unused carbs.....
I had to make my own progressive
linkage, but you can buy it now a days.
As I recall I ran 50 jets in the middle carb and like 35 in end
carbs......Time
dulls the memory.
