The ABS/TC/Brake idiot light is on (it has RPO NW9). It did it to me in
the past and I pulled the ABS MOD BATT fuse and all was well. I have
replaced the module on the strut tower (GM part # 18024455 I think) and
still have the problem. I pulled the fuses (ABS IGN, ABS BATT and the
main IGN fuse) no lights until I tapped the brake pedal and they came
back on. I'm now thinking it is not the TC motor and relay, but rather
the ABS motor (valve kit, Brake Pressure Module )and relay up by the
master cylinder to the right of the resevior. (GM Part # 18060807) Any
thoughts? Any easy way to get that part out? I had a hard enough time
filling the brake resevior. Remove the 4 bolts and pull the whole MC?

Why would you do anything without finding out waht is actually wrong!? Get
it scanned for abs codes and start from there.

The van was at the dealer for state inspection / emissions. Dealer
claimed after they hooked up for emission (OBDII -> to a pc) the lights
came on. They spent 5 hours t/s and came back and told me I needed a TC
motor kit. According to the parts catalog that is the part on the strut
tower that I replaced.

This dealer is the same one I bought the van from and has done all of
my state inspect/emissions. I really do not think they did anything
that would cause the lights. They wanted me to pony up $600 for the
repair. Cost was $197 and took me longer to bleed the brakes than to
R&R the part.

I'll pull the codes and list them.

Well, hope you learned your lesson. You would have been
further ahead to let them throw the module on and then
explain why that didn't fix it. The worst thing a customer
can do is bring a vehicle in the shop, have it diagnosed,
and then replace parts based on that diagnosis. Just looking
for trouble.

So Ian, you are saying that the dealer will lie to a customer in hopes
that they agree to have the work done then do something completely
different?

I did not take it to them to have it diagnosed. I took it for a state
inspect.

Back on topic though, if anyone has any useful advice, I would like to
hear it. No OBDII codes as of 30 minutes ago.

Did I say that? What I said was that if you take a vehicle out of
the shop after it has been diagnosed and you replace the part that
"they" said you needed....you are a fool. Especially with
electronic types of repairs. If they diagnose it....let them complete
the repair. As it is...you've replaced a part that didn't fix anything,
do you think you will be able to take that part back? If you do
get to take it back and return it, consider yourself very lucky.

No history codes? If lights came on, and you haven't cleared
the codes, there should be something in there.

So you are telling me that if I don't come up with some
answer to the guy's problem, I can't be involved in
the conversation? Frankly, fixing his problem is the
least of his worries. All these attempts to save money
make me laugh.

If I misread your cryptic comment......so be it.
