I have an old 1989 buick century that has a few minor wiring problems that
I need some help with please. The electric cooling fan on the radiator
only seems to work with the a/c turned on, it has not turned on
automaticaly to cool the radiator... The only time I know the fan is on is
when the air conditioning is turned on. I am very good with electronics if
someone could give me a few pointers or a link to a wiring diagram for the
fan on the radiator and its switches an all.
Thank you very much,
Rick

Hi

There should be 2 connections
1. Power from the battery
2. A switch from the thermostat which turns on the fan when the water
temperature reaches a certain temperature.

Also there should be two cooling fans
1. For the radiator
2. For the Air Conditioner

I am talking very general here not specifically about a Buick.
Other pointers to a malfunctioning thermostat are overheating as you drive
more, pinging.

Good Luck

I could be off base here, but doesn't your vehicle have a mechanical fan
to cool the engine? If so, the electric is only supposed to turn on
when the AC turns on or when the engine overheats, it doesn't run
normally.

If you only have the electric fan, then I would start by checking the
switch near the thermostat to see if it has failed.
