Anyone know of a laser detector/scrambler that actually works? Also, in
which states is it legal?

Please feel free to reply via e-mail or posting.

TIA,
Ross

Most laser detectors work, but to varying degrees. Basically you get what
you pay for

Scramblers are mostly suspect. I've seen numerous tests on them and
basically they don't work.

The one from Escort is definitely the best but requires some difficult
installation in some vehicles. Any that don't have exterior mounted detector
/ transmitters are total BS and won't work a bit.

According to every test ever run - except those by Craig Peterson at
radartest.com - the Valentine One is clearly the detector to beat, and to
date, it appears that no one has.

Every time the subject comes up on rennlist.com, the Porsche enthusiast's
site, Valentine emerges as the clear and pretty much undisputed winner. The
subject comes up regularly, but the outcome never seems to change.

I'd certainly research further than radartest.com before deciding that the
Escort is better than the Valentine One.

By the way, I don't own either, but if I were buying one, I'm pretty sure
that comparisons would lead me toward the Valentine.

I've owned both and the new 8500 Passport is absolutely better than the V1
with regards to KA detection. What I neglected to say in my post though is
that the Escort LIDAR scrambler is the only scrambler to actually work
against all the guns out there. The Laser part was really the only part I
was responding too, I learned a long time ago not to get into debates about
radar detectors, it's too much like politics.

Read all the research and articles over on Valentine One. Lots of good info,
and explanation of how tests are done. Specifically mentions radartest.com.

I LUUUUUURRVVE my Valentine!

The issue is false alarms; not sensitivity.

The Valentine is worth the money.

Not true...many of us M5 drivers are using Lidatek LE-30's and I can tell
you from multiple encounters with police LIDAR that they do work and work
well.

Do they interfere with laser detection from, say, a V1?

That's interesting. I'd be very interested to see some technical reports or
test results. All the information that I am aware of is that while there is
no question that the detectors work, any scramblers, blockers, or stealth
devices that claim to make the car invisible to laser or somehow screw it up
don't work. Period.

Which is not to say that you can't beat a laser ticket. There was a case
recently where they set up a test outside the court and the judge or JP
witnessed a brick wall being read as going 60 MPH!. Case dismissed! (-;
