is it true that if cold air yields more power than normal temperated air by
the car engine. if so, i would like to modify my car aiir intake. but before
that, can anyone explain what is K&N air filter, cold ai kit, and where &
how do I install it.

Thanks

Look carefully at your existing intake. Many Toyotas come stock from
the factory with air intake through the bumper which admits cooler
outside air.
K&N will admit more air but also more dirt (silica). Only conceivable
power improvement would be a wide open throttle. Oiled filters can foul
the hot wire air sensor if you have one.
Main effect of the set up you're describing is more intake air noise.
Likely do better by just blowing out the stock filter with compressed
air or changing it more often.

ya. the stock air intack is located very close to the front grille where
outside air can get into very easily... but is it true that colder air
yields more power than warmer air. If so, why?

Nathan: google is your friend. Cold air ... oxygen density per volume ...
basic physics.

Because it's denser, therefore can be mixed with more fuel
therefore yields more power... simple.

Hmmmm....interesting subject. I put a Pilot CAI on a Tercel (!) hoping to
gain some horsepower. What I noticed was:

Fuel mileage increased about 4 MPG
Throttle response was a lot better

No real increase in horsepower; thing still couldn't make it up an anthill!

The other thing to consider is, it lets more air in. In a lot of cases, it
lets more DIRT in, too. It says to clean the filter every 30,000 miles, I
did it once a year, at about 10-12,000. I wanted to make sure the thing
had fresh oil to help keep the dirt out. I was going to increase to every
6 months, but I sold the car.

You don't say what you have for a car. If it is a throwaway, you can get
an intake pretty cheap. If it something you want to keep for a while,
unass some ducats and get a good one, like an iceman or so.

Oh, and K&N filters have a tendency to munch MAF sensors on Toyotas.
They're expensive you know.

Nice photos!
How'd you make those arrows, Tegger? (ie, what sw app did you use?)

And can be dangerous (hydro lock) if one drives in a rainy area.
One unexpected deep mud puddle can turn one's engine into a $5k
piece of twisted steel scupture. (Google for anecdotes)
