1st Street Rod Nats Photos |

To All,
Well, I finally found the pictures I took at the First Street Rod
Nationals. It only took me 2 years (god I hate moving....) Anyway, I
posted them on my personal web site (no ads or pop ups) if anyone
wants to take a look.

Scroll down toward the bottom of the page. There are 54 pictures,
30-40k each so unless you have a high speed modem they take a while to
load.

Thanks for posting the link and photos. Nice to see some of the cars
that really put streetrodding on the map. My first Nats was Memphis in
'75 when I attended with my '48 Anglia.
A couple cars look like ones that people I know owned at the time. I
also like that you have some pics of Andy Brizio's t-bucket; the one
he sold to John Bonham, the now-deceased drummer of Led Zeppelin (and
which is shown in their movie, The Song Remains the Same).
Wasn't the gold '34 Ford sedan with the blown Olds engine owned by
someone named Weems, or something like that (name starts with a 'W'
from what I recall)? It has been decades since I saw photos of it in
magazines and it was one of the first streetrods I think I saw with a
blower and scoop so high up in the air.
I also like the zoomie headers sticking out the side of the yellow
sedan next to the little c-cab (which looks like it is probably VW
powered).
I wish I had gotten into hotrods sooner and attended that historic
event. I wonder how many people still own the same cars now. I bet
some of those cars would command a higher selling price now if still
looking the same and if they had been shown in magazines at the time
(disregarding the general inflation price of old hot rods). I'm
thinking like 'hall of fame' type designation added valuation.

Glad you enjoyed the pics. There were lots of T buckets at that show &
for the first one they had a good turnout.
I don't remember who owned the blown sedan but I know it was featured
in a couple of mags at that time.
I got an e-mail from a guy that's been doing some research on the meet
and he had just talked to the dude that had a picture of his '32
roadster used on the event poster. The guy still has the car but he
didn't say if he still drives it or not.
I'm trying to come up with some more pictures. I know some of my
friends took some too.

Nice Pics Leon.
Did I see a 41 Ford with an extra set
of parking lights? And a Tommy Ivo type
injected Nail Valve. The 58 Chev I take
is the one that had the bummer elec
clock....Or was that some other Leon
Rowell....Nice digs....

Thanks for the kudos Dan. You have to look close on some of the cars
at the meets to see all of the little enhancements. The 322 Nailhead
Buick was the engine I had in my first street rod ('36 Ford Coupe)
back in the early '60s. I still have the '36 but it has a 327 Chevy in
it now. God, there can't possibly be two Leon Rowells. Poor guy, he's
probably being blamed for a lot of stuff he didn't do. ;^) But no
clock problems in the '58....
