My left tail light bulb burned out in my 1997 4Runner. How do I
remove the red plastic casing so I can get at the bulb? Pry it off?
Unscrew it?

Regards,
Chris

They are usually got at from the inside, by removing interior trim.

There are wingnuts that hold the taillamp in place. They should be
accessable through the interior of the vehicle.

Open the gate, undo 2 10mm hex head bolts, pull it out.

Once you remove the screws, the housing (entire tail lights set) is held in
place by a couple of stationary pins. As I remember, you simply slide the
housing to the side to disengage it from those pins. Then you'll have
access to the lights. The owners manual shows the sliding move via arrows,
check it out and it'll make more sense. Don't pry the housing, you'll
almost certainly break something.
