Hi all,

The outside drivers' door latch has cracked and is ready to fall off. It
needs to be replaced and the EKT shows special tools needed to remove the
handle mechanism.

Has anyone replaced this mechanism?

Can standard shop tools be used?

Thanks,
\
Bob

I wish you luck with an answer - I tried near everywhere, including here,
without success.

On mine, the original was metal - horrible pot metal stuff. The
replacement plastic. But they never break, according to BMW...;-)

Right, it's cast aluminum stuff.

If it were aluminium, it might not have broken. But it's Mazak - a sort of
zinc alloy. Known as muckite. ;-)

Replacement plastic?? Did you replace it or
have it done? Damm not I'll have to paint it too.

Here's some UK figures. Supplied painted from factory - about 150 gbp. No
supply time available. Painted by garage - but only as part of other work
so would have to wait until the same colour car came in for accident
repair - about 90 gbp.
Part alone 30 gbp. And either way plus fitting and VAT.

I've painted mine but not fitted it yet. I just use the remote to open the
window. I've examined what you can see through the hole with a magnifying
glass and powerful lamp, but still can't work out how it is removed.

If needs be I'll strip out the door.
