I've been studying the different kinds of aftermarket ventshades for my '05
Corolla. I've brought up this thread recently but have more say now having
seen some real shades. In parking lot tours I look at shades on any
equipped car I see. I have never seen any make other than "Auto
Ventshades, Lawrence,GA." Some tuck into the window channels and others
have a 1/2" tab that is visible on top of the window frame which I don't
like. From what I have seen on websites like the two below, the "in
channel" is the current trend.

Somewhere I got hold of the "Weathertech" name which is sited below.
Although I'm not sure but I got the impression that they were high quality
items. Does anyone have some experience to offer me?

Also I would like to know which color of shade would look more "natural."
My car is light silver but the window frames are black: light to match the
body paint or dark to blend in with the window frames? Check out the
sites.

I have the lighter color Weathertechs on my Silver Tacoma and like them
better than the dark ones. In my opinion, the dark ones "stand out" more. I
also like them because they go inside of the window channel. This makes them
look more streamlined than the stick-ons.

What do you think about the quality of your Weathertechs verses the other
shades you see on other cars?

I like Weathertech over the stick on Ventvisor. Regardless of how clean you
get the area the ventvisors always have a place where they don't stick. The
Ventvisors also have a brownish tinge to them. The Weathertech are a
quality product.

Do those things really work?

The weathertechs seem to be a better quality than the stick-on type that I

have looked at.

Sounds like we're on the same page. Weathertech is sending me two sample
pieces of acrylic to allow me to eyeball the actual tint against the car.
Light sounds like the way to go. I never considered stick-on or metal
shades from any manufacturer. WT's will be about $100 with freight. I
don't part with that much money unless I have been made to believe that they
work. Opening a Corolla window in the rain or even when the car is wet
reminds me of opening a submarine hatch immediately after surfacing.

Thanks to all those who responed to help me with advice.

I don't like them, however...

I smoke. The manufacturers, in order to gain some extra fuel economy, have
done away with the rain gutters like on the older models (unlike my '85
Corolla, which had 'integral' rain gutters that WORKED!) so that when I
roll down the window after lighting up, I get wet if it's raining. My '95
Tercel did this, and my '94 Chrysler LHS does this, only worse. As I
mentioned, my '85 Rolla doesn't have rain gutters, yet I don't get leaked
on when I roll the window down slightly. (Yeah, I know...the best fix is
to QUIT SMOKING!)

But I just can't bring myself to stick those THINGS on my car!

Hey, BTW, coming to Mass for T-Day?

Yet you stick 'those things' into your mouth and suck all that
shit into your lungs...you sure got your priorities all lined up
properly haven't you now?

Ach so. The voice of experience. Of course, he's right folks. If I can the
butts, I can just leave the windows up while it's raining.

Use in-channel and insert them in your car.

The hardest thing I ever did was quit smoking....many many moons ago.

Hell with the price of butts now....I would think that would be reason
enough to give em up...

You're halfway there now you know...you see the 'error of your
ways'.

Some advice, never never worry about the pittance that cigarettes
cost...what 6 - 8 bucks a pack?...pennies!...rather think of the
cost later, no long romantic walks on the beach (why would you
need the 'romantic' part?). Carrying an oxygen cylinder with you
everywhere, paying ~$500 bucks a month for oxy service, being
conscious of not going beyond the 1/2 hour limitation of your
cylinder.

The cost of cigs should be the least of your concerns.

I'm going to visit one of my clients today. She is on home oxygen.
She is a bit worse off than you...she has lung cancer.

I keep her in good spirits...but it is a terrible way to end this life
:(

Good man Scott...say hello to her and say that I know what it's

like (the oxy part).
