SPARK PLUG KNOCK
I have '89 Chevy truck(350) w/200K+ miles. Have to run premium in it(still knocks a little) at $3+/gallon, it's killing me. I assume the chambers are carboned up bad. Is there a way to decarbonize this motor without taking the heads off? I had heard years ago that you could squirt water into the carb(running at fast idle) and that would remove the deposits. Any truth to that, andbody know?

carbon knock
It's true. You can use water or automatic trans fluid. I've even heard of rice being used but that sounds kinda scary. Check with your local auto parts store or a Chevy dealer and see what they have. Be sure and follow the directions on the package. You might try to wind up the motor a few times in low gear and blow out the carbon. It could be some timing issues, if you have the orginal timing chain in the engine, it's gotta be worn and stretched. That will affect the engine timing.
