Don't know what years/model you are comparing but in general they are
completely different cars in build quality and they way they perform.
Spec "numbers" mean nothing.

It's what makes the world go 'round.
Why would anyone own a Rolex when he could get a Casio that kept better time
and cost about what it costs to ship a Rolex home for service. And no one
would be inclined to hit him over the head to steal it.
So why would anyone buy either a Corvette or a Porsche (note
capitalizations) when a Corolla would get him there just as well with body
and operator's permit intact, and no one would be inclined to hit him over
the head to steal it.
Beats me.

Too often in life, you don't get what you pay for. I suspect the |

I think the reason the Porsches cost so much is because they are made
by Bavarian elfs and I hear they have a strong union. And besides, I
think the Corvettes have more plastic in them.

That Z-06 with the Bilstein suspension package, the Bosch fuel injection and
the 928 inspired transaxle?
I hear they want to replace the checkered flag on the Corvette emblem with
the German national flag!

Well then I guess that rules out the Chevy!
Say, anybody heard lately how they are doing financially?
Think they have any job openings at some of the plants?

Thank you, I was gonna mention something about the old Porsche marketing
literature in the 80's for the 951 was that it ate Corvettes for lunch...
not sure Porsche would ever compare a 911 against a Corvette... just not
in the same class...

no, that WATER cooled V8 small block chevy normally aspirated 500+ HP
is what provides the rush! And the thing gets 30 mpg on the highway.
Actually that checkered flag has earned its place. All the C5 victories
at Lemans, Daytona, every place it enters it wins.
hows you used bmw? the new models are using run flats and stability
controls |

The Porsche has better handeling... better quality overall I guess..
(Thanks to those Bavarian elfs..) I would never consider a Corvette..
they are cool etc.. but would never beat a Porsche on a track with
proper curves.

What it comes down to is quality and quantity. GM is not interested in
the demographic that buys a Porsche. They market to Joe Six Pack with
the promise of lot's of speed for low money. That is why in JD Power's
most recent long term resale review the C-5 Corvette made the list for
poor resale value. The car is very one dimensional. While the 911 not
only made the list of top resale value leaders, but it's commitment to
building the complete package of speed, handling, braking, comfort and
overall quality is what sets it apart from the Corvette.
Putting that aside...there are more Corvettes alone than every Porsche
ever built combined! A hand built, low production number car will
always command more than a mass produced assembly line car.
One does have to hand it to Chevy to finally admit its errors and join
the very successful 928/924/944/968 family in adding the front engine,
rear transaxle design to their cars. Albeit 25 years late. One also has
to hand it to Chevy for looking to Germany for their Bilstein
suspension and leveling packages. Let's not leave out that Bosch fuel
injection they are currently running. You have to admit it took guts
for the "King of the American hill" to incorporate so much German
technology into their cars, but you can't argue with the results. The
problem is and will always be overall quality. As long as GM insists on
cutting corners to keep the price down the Corvette will always viewed
as a second tier choice in the world scheme. |
