Got a 98 Contour (2.0L) cylinder with a 171 fault code..
This is an O2 sensor. Have replaced the sensor on the manifold and
the on in the pipe under the engine and cleared the fault... BUT the
fault returns with "171 bank-1 O2 sensor ...
what is bank-1, better yet, where is "Bank-1"
Thanks

You also dont say whether the rears are disk.. though you also imply that.
If both are true, at least ONE of the rear calipers is hanging up.
Remove both, see if the pads are of even thickness across their faces, make
sure the slide pins and boots are well lubricated and without rust particles

Good advice but I don't see this poster getting their hands dirty
anytime soon. Hopefully he/she can find an honest mechanic.

What would cause these lights to come on and should I be looking for 2

I was also wondering if the lack of use would cause things in the brake

Probably the rear speed sensor, both abs and pcm use the sensor
but without pulling the codes it stays a lucky guess

No I don't know what's wrong with it, and when the guy says there is
nothing wrong, even while you are driving down the road telling him there is
something hitting your foot, and also says when I say I'd like to take it to
a shop before going any further and , it has no insurance and he will be out
of town for a week, all that starts to make you look elsewhere.

Re: Anyone ever remove their power antenna? |
|
|
We had a deer strike last December with our '02... Deer ran into the
driver's door, taking the mirror, dented the door badly, dented the
rear passenger door, and broke the antenna. Every time the radio was
turned off, the antenna tried to retract but couldn't, making the most
annoying noise! The antenna motor, as you noticed, is placed quite
awkwardly! You don't have to be a contortionist to remove it, though.
Just take a good look, as there's not much holding it in. It's been
almost two years now, so the details have faded... I played around
and removed it, ended up putting it back in and just disconnected the
power lead. The body shop swapped it during repairs, as the car is
still financed...

rest in place. Any thoughts?

Good question. Maybe you should ask your dealer. :)

Umm...
i guess I can see that. Different (or lack of) "life experience" and all

In truth those rivets wouldnt hold a storm door closer bracket in place, let
alone a strut. |

Hi,
Hope someone here had the same problem and maybe help me find the
trouble.
My windstar 95 3.8L, have a hard time to start when the outside
temperature reaches 32°F (0°C).
It looks as if the gas\air mixture isn't OK, I have the codes read, and
there were none.
When driving, around 30m/h (50Km), and putting the throttle to the
floor,
the engine won't take it, and hesitate.
The plugs and wires are brand new.
Thanks.
Fuel Filter???
Or a dirty mass air flow sensor?
Bob

Re: 2000 Taurus spark plugs |

You do have to remove the plenum. Sorry. However, it has an o-ring type
gasket (not in shape, just in style) that doesn't need replaced. It's not
too bad. Just be careful not to crack the coils.

You do not need a scan tool to turn out the light on a Ford.
The light will go off on its own if you fix the problem.

G#$#@@$32!!!!!!
SO...DID YOU EVER TRY IT?!!!!
Why do I get this deja-vu EVERYTIME.
1. The maf has next to NO effect on starting the car..plugged or unplugged,
if it RUNS better unplugged, it's either dirty or bad.
2. IF the car starts better while pumping the accel, it means it's trying to
start with too little gas, but there is gas available
could be an air leak after the throttle body (check vacuum lines), bad TPS,
stuck IAC or a flaky ECT sensor (unlikely) |
