I own a 94 Sentra. Bought the car at 94k miles. The previuos owners
were the classic grandparents. Kept every reciept, had the Nissan
dealer change oil every 3k miles and service at the recommended
intervals.
I, too, am very religious on routine maintanance. Oil change every 3 k
miles and I only use the "supreme" gas.
I am now at 198k miles. How long can this thing go? It runs perfect;
albeit the oil leak that I have to replace about a quart of oil every
other tank fill. Can these engines hit 250k? 300k? Just curious.
Thanks
Todd

3K miles oil change req is a myth, i change min eat most 7500 miles or a
full year because it's AMSOIL, it's not cheap junk from a conveneince store,
even Mobil1 supposedly "best" is 2nd after AMSOIL

Well you already have oil leaks... it's impossible fo rmy silly brains and
low experienc eot predict your 1.6L longevity, I heard Maximas were very
very durable except a few production years I forget which, Sentras dont
knpow, it's th echeapest/lowest Nissan vehicles so dont expect to much, I
heard of million-mile maximas, or easily 200K Altimas/maximas

Mine is 2004 Sentra and I did 5K miles in 10 months... a casual user, use
subway/masstransit whenever possible, WHOEVER BUYS MY CAR IN THE FUTURE WILL
BE VERY LUCKY as its years dont correspond to mileage whatsoever, i
sometimes think stuff might freeze and clog inside due too low usage heheheh

I strike a balance. After pwning a guzzling Oldsmobile convertible with
noticeable stench and heat build up after 30-40 miles trip, I promise
dmyself never again choose appearance over emissions/performance. Olds
looked beautiful, the internals were crap however, maybe OK fo rthat 1994
year, but you could watch gas gauge dropping literally dropping with every
few New York City blocks, this torture made conditioned me to hate all
guzzlers, not abou tmoney - it made me sick and I thought I am 32 year old
healthy man going to transform into one of these piggy ugly old farts who
never get out of their cars.

So yes Sentra is a tin can on outside but it'; smy lovely workhorse now that
I put 1/3 tank and never refuel whole week, I do NOT load fulll tank anymor
ebecause i figured gas is weight in itself, so why carry 14 gallon sof
combustible liquid that will kill you in certain collisions/explosions when
I can get arounfd at 2-4 gallons and gas station is a few blocks from my
building so making this refueling trip is NOt wasteful either, I am
seriously now an environmentalist due to bad experienc ewith guzzling
garbage (2 junkies), which cost me very little but if I kew I'd get a new
PZEV or other e=fuel-efficient vehicle then instea dof waiting until 2004

My Sentra is nearly $1K more due to california-rated emissions (toughest in
the country)

I own a 99 Sentra with the GA16de engine. It looks like its bullet
proof. I bought it used and it was badly maintained. WHen I test drove
it, acceleration was so poor that it struggled to get past 50 MPH. I was
pretty sure it was lack of mainentance on the feul filter. Once I got
the car, I changed it. It looks like it was the original feul filter
that came with the car when new! WIth the change, a WHOLE lot of pep
came back to the motor. WIth such a badly maintained feul filter
however, I knew the feul pump must have been affected. I noticed that
with the AC on, the car kind of felt weak. SO just this past weekend I
did the feul pump. Now its mid-range response is beatiful. SO my GA16DE
was badly maintained with 97 K miles and once cleaned just rocks now.

By the way, you are completely wasting your money putting supreme (I
assume 91 octane) gas in your Sentra. Your mileage is poor and power is
dwon because the GA16DE motor doesn't know how to deal with high octane
gas. DO yourself a favor and just put 87 octane. Mileage will be great,
and so will power. ANd it will still last long, too.

Oh, and my GA16DE doesn't drink a drop of oil, either:)
