Hi, i have a 2001 Nissan Almera 1.5S with 25000 miles on the clock. I've
noticed that when the outside temperature is less than about 3 C it takes
about 8-10 attempts before the car starts. Whilst it won't start the
dashboard indicators (engine management light, fuel tank light etc) aren't
lit but they come on the time it starts. When trying to start the engine
turns ok but its as though there is no spark. Also, once started if i have
to restart it starts first time (until stood for a long time in cold). Could
it be some kind of faulty cold temp sensor or worse, some fault with the
engine computer system.

I would check coolant temperature sensor and also when this happens
what is the humidity outside ,there could be possible problem with
spark plug wires and distributor cap .

Do you "prime" the system when starting in the cold? WHat I mean is,

turn the key to the run postion, where all the lights light up, like
check engine, seatbelts, etc, but DONT start the car. Wait. You should
hear the feul pump behind whizzing along. Once it stops, then turn the
key to start the car.

The car starts on a feul rich mixture, and priming the feul system gets
the feul injectors pressurized enough to really get going when you hit
the ignition.

Hope this helps

This seems exactly the same as my Micra starting problem, see a few

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give things a try and let you know the
results. To John Buckley; yes it does sound exactly the same. Its the
lights not coming on that makes me hope its not an engine management problem
as these can be very expensive. I'm also concerned that the fault might
occur when on the move and i'll lose all power.

Thanks, this helps a lot. I've tried it for the last 2 days and it does
work. This morning the outside temp was -4 C, i turned the key and it took
about 5 secs for the lights to come on but then it started first time. Can't
understand why the handbook doesn't say anything about this.
