Approximately 8 months ago I noticed my "service engine soon" lamp on. I had
it looked at and found that it was a oxygen sensor that would cost $215 to
repair. I recently had it repaired along with a 70K mile comp tuneup.
When I got the vehicle back, I put fuel-injector cleaner in the gas. The
very next day I noticed the "service lamp" on again. I was told that the
injector cleaner was not O2 safe. Anyone familiar with this?

Thx...

Brent

Sounds like BS to me. You need to have the codes read so you know what

it's complaining about.

Specifically, what fuel injection cleaner did you use?

Could be the gas cap and nothing to do with the cleaner. Trying removing
and putting it back on tighter and see if it goes away in a day or two. It
must have a good seal. Happened to me.

Some cleaners specifically say they aren't catalytic compatible.

Also, which O2 sensor was it? Replacing one of them requires a computer
firmware update, there's a tech bulletin on that. 02006 or maybe another,
not sure which it is. If you took it to a dealer, I'd assume they would
have checked that. Someone else might not have though, or have the ability
to reprogram.

My SES lamp came on about 6 months ago ('02 PF). I took it to my
friendly Autozone store and they read the code. I don't remember the
code number, but it translated to the left front 02 sensor. It must
have been a transient problem because Autozone cleared the trouble code
and the light didn't come back on. I'm thinking of buying one of those
code readers so that I can reset the code and be sure that it's a real
problem before I take it in for repair.
