I have a 2001 Nissan Altima GXE V4 and have 40K miles on it. It was
running good. Suddenly it started idling problem. The dash board
started showing engine service soon. I took the car to auto repair
shop. They replaced spark plugs & wires, rotor cap and rotor. They are
suspecting "Intake manifold leaking, it seems to be a common
occurrence on these vehicles". They are asking me to take it to
Nissan dealer and they need to fix this for no charge because it is a
common problem.
Any of you guys have come across this problem? Any of you guys had
fixed the problem by dealer with no charge.
How I need to proceed?

Thanks
San

Does it happen any time the engine is at idle, or only when you first start
it?
If only at idle, most likely it is the idle air control valve, but that
usually doesnt happen till your above 75k. Mine failed at 90k. The easiest
way to check it is to find it on the intake manifold and disconnect the
vacuum line leading to it and start the vehicle. If it idles, the valve is
bad.
Is your still within the warranty period, then take it to a dealership and
have them run a diagnostic on the idle circuit and ECU.

My car was idling rough. The dealer diagnosed a leaking manifold
intake which was repaired and not under warranty. I have a 2001 Nissan
Altima with 70,000 miles. I have always kept the car maintained and in
fact the car had the 60,000 miles maintenance at the dealer. Maybe
this is a problem with this model?! Anyone else have this problem?

depending on the in service date of the vehicle it may or may not be covered
under the 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty.

This is not a "common" problem to all Altima's but it has happed .

It also sounds to me like the shop you took it to threw a lot of parts at it
guessing at the problem instead of diagnosing it, I hope you got you money
back because they did not properly diagnose and or repair the problem.
