 I am a firm believer that if you pull a lever down in to it
notch and feel gears engage you are probably in 4 wheel drive. My mo
had an Explorer boy what a POS and it had pushbutton 4wd whic
explains why no one bothers to pull any of those idiots that drive the
out on sand. My dads 3/4 ton Sub has it too, and Nope doesnt work. M
buddys Blazer almost stranded us up on a mountain 25degreesF in WV
because... pushbutton 4wd. My point is (finally) how is Nissan'
version of this incredibly stupid idea???? I know Post 97 Pathfinder
and QX4s have it how bout the Murano? I am a super loyal 95 Pfunk owne
but am curious about the Murano. I would regularly drive it on the beac
so since the Pfunk never gets stuck how does the Murano Do? I would lik
to know all about the Murano but if you have never driven off pavemen
before (unless you live in snowy regions) Id like to hear from thos
who have

Vauxhall (ie GM) had a car called a Cavalier over here - nothing like

the US one - which had a 4wd option. This had an electrically operated
clutch. AFAIK it worked OK, once they had sorted out the tire wear
problems on the early cars.

My '01 Pathfnder doesn't have push button 4WD. There's a lever
next to the shifter and a mechanical linkage.

I have seen Vaux cars in my little stents in Europe but are they
Nissan Division or have any association? I dont know any thing abou
it. I think my biggest concern is the fact that the mechanism consist
of a selenoid or actuator and wire harness right up against the Trans
and exposed to all the grease dirt and water you plow through daily

Vauxhall is General Motors UK.

(and just for reference, the identical cars are badged "Opel" on
mainland Europe)

I own three of the Ford POS Explorers. If you can convince me that there is
something better for my purposes I'll be happy to buy it.

Yes, the mechanism, at least on the Explorers, is a servo motor and a wiring
harness that is exposed. However I have never had a problem with that part
of it. What usually causes the 4WD to not engage is the servo motor getting
stuck from lack of use or lubrication. The push-button 4WD becomes much
more reliable once the servos are taken apart, cleaned, and well lubricated.
They are very well sealed so exposure is not the reason they fail. I agree
that a lever is much better and more reliable but the car manufacturers
would rather sell something that appears to be easier to use to people who
probably don't even need 4WD than to make it reliable. Same reason why they
make auto-locking hubs. I am considering a 4x4 Titan and it also has
push-button 4WD. Oh well. At least they finally made a place to put all
the stuff that most people take with them offroad, such as a tow rope and
tire repair stuff etc.

I did not understand what you meant by the "idiots drive them" out on the
sand. Did you mean that Explorers are not suited for driving on the beach?
They are not dune buggys but they are more capable than I expected them to
be in other conditions.
