I need to figure this out: Can BMW radio-cassette reverse control a
cd-changer placed in the trunk?

I'm not getting it.
The radio can control a CD if the CD is a BMW unit. The car is pre-wired for
this feature, and when the changer is added, the radio will see it
automatically.

Well, i had the impression that only radio bmw business can control a cd |
changer and not radio bmw revese. I am wrong right?

Well, i had the impression that only radio bmw business can control a cd
changer and not radio bmw revese. I am wrong right?

Jeff is speaking from the US point of view, which might not be right
for Greek cars. In addition, the "Business" radio was never sold in
the US cars, because those broadcast features don't exist here.
Given all that, the likely hood is high that a standard BMW cassette/radio
will control a CD changer mounted in the trunk using the standard
wiring.
We have no idea what "revese" is; you need someone in Europe/UK
to reply.

I have the "standard" radio, as far as I know. It is the unit with a
cassette tape IN THE HEAD UNIT, and the CD changer in the trunk. It's the
BMW Model CM5903L, P/N 90 88 1 600 303.

sorry to jump in but do bmw or any oem manufactures make a mp3 harddisk
unit which is compatable with the cdchanger, ive lots of music and could
probably make do with an mp3 dvd player but would prefer a hardisk based
system what can be controled by the steering wheel.
if nobody make disk based player does anyone know how hard it would be to
hack together one, the disk and mp3 decoding chipset would be pretty
standard but if anyone knows whether the bmw is standard it might be a
help. basicly does the changer function purely as a drive or does it do
the decodeing too. |

I have heard of ipod compliance, maybe you should investigate into that.
Furthermore, i can assume that the cd-changer unit does the decoding since
it can fit with a CASSETTE head unit. |

There's a device out that goes by the name Phatnoise. Here's the promo
description. The one that's advertised here is the 60GB version but
there are smaller ones. You can see it at www.bavauto.com and probably

Agreed. I'd like to connect an IPod or similiar device to my car (89
325i) but since I added a CD changer, I'll either have to go with the
FM transmitter or fabricate an AUX type connection. Either way, not a
big deal. The Phatnoise system is for the people that have the real
$$$ and aren't willing to settle for something simple. |

Do you have sat nav if so you can use the tape deck to trigger a PC in
the boot which you then control via the sat nav display and then you can
play back whatever you store on it
look at http://www.creative-nightshifts.com/carx.htm once you join the
forum you can download the app and a very good install guide
(all freeware)
it even support Gatso radar detection via a configuration file as well
which is neat.
I have my work Laptop wired into my car when travelling to meetings etc.
I also have wifi built in and in town can sometimes find open wifi point
to check emails etc as well
Great fun and in my case it only cost me 45 euros for the I bus interface
