My muffler fell off my car. I went to a local muffler shop to get a
new one and found out they only have silver ones. I want a metalflake
forest green colored one. I have since called at least a dozen other
muffler shops, and even called some in New York, thinking they would
have a larger stock on hand. I also contacted numerous auto parts
stores. No one has them in color.

I finally went to a parts store and bought a silver one. I took it to
an automotive paint store to have it painted. They had the prefect
color, but told me the paint will burn off the muffler, so they would
not warranty the paint job. I declined their offer, particularly when
they mentioned that the paint could actually catch the car on fire and
that I would have to sign a disclaimer.

This has gotten me really upset in the last six weeks. In the
meantime I have gotten seven tickets for having a noisy exhaust
system. Each time I have been pulled over, I have explained to the
cop about my problem of not finding a muffler of the proper color, and
each time they still give me a ticket. This is really starting to
piss me off.

I am surprised the cops did not laugh in your face with an excuse like that.
there is a reason you can only find silver mufflers. that is the color of
the metal that is used to make mufflers. and if you paint a muffler, the
paint will burn off in a matter of hours.
