Mechanical Dependability |

It just amazes me that you can buy a car for
$15,000 like the Corolla and it will have a better
long-term "JD Power" mechanical dependability rating
after 5 years than a car that costs a whole lot more
like a Mercedes, Cadillac, or Jaguar. Am I interpreting
the JD Power surveys wrongly?
For example, the '97 Corolla gets 4 stars in the
JD Power survey for mechanical dependability compared
to just 3 stars for a '97 S-Class Mercedes.

I have a '93 Eldo, acquired in 1997, which is a money pit. Great
engineering concepts, poorly executed. If I couldn't do the work
myself I couldn't afford to keep it. All kinds of interesting and
basically unnecessary features that fail one after another.
My wife has a '93 Camry purchased new. Recently the non-maintenance
repair parts total hit about $100.00 even.
