E46 2000 328Ci
50k miles
Check engine light came on. Computer code read camshaft sensor- exhaust.
Had it replaced and the light came back on that evening. Had it replaced
again, just to make sure the new sensor wasn't defective. A day later, the
same fault code came back, even after resetting the light a few times.
I spoke to a mechanic and he said that the computer software may just
need to be adjusted, but from what I gather, they just widen the tolerance
for the sensor so the light does not come back on. Anyone else had a similar
problem? Or any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Seems unlikely that two, new, sensors would be bad. I'd start looking at the
wiring between sensor and DME. Best test would be to put on O'scope on the
sensor and check the signal level. Adjusting software seems goofy to me.
