I'm in the midst of replacing the antenna mast & cable on my 1994
Pathfinder, but I've hit a snag. After removing the antenna motor
housing from the body, I can't remove the old mast from the assembly.
Shouldn't it just pull out?

I have it extended all the way out but when I pull it, it hits a
stopping
point just when it should pop out of the housing.

Also, assuming that I can get themast out, when I feed the new cable
and mast in, should I add some grease? When I opened the housing to
remove the bits of broken old cable, I saw evidence of a lubricant.
(I have some white grease--is that ok to use?)

Not sure about the pathfinder, but on the maxima there is a chrome nut to
remove where
the antenna comes out of the body. Once this nut is removed, extend the
antenna (as best can be done) then pull the mast out. I never removed the
motor to remove the mast (but if some of the nylon track is still stuck in
the assembly, there is a round cover at the bottom of the assembly that can
be removed to get to the broken pieces out...

Yes, I removed the chrome nut that screws through the top of the
car into the top of the antenna housing. The problem I'm having is
that the antenna mast will not pull out of the housing.

and it wont pull out of the housing, the entire antanae assembly needs to be

removed, remove the plastic inner fender and look up inside, the antanae
assembly is bolted onto the up unside the inner fender, i replaced mine on
my 94 pathfinder last year, take apart the antanae motor and replace remove
the mast and the broken off plastic "rail" inside, most auto shops like
autozone carry replacement ones or will order one for you.

As noted, I opened the housing and got bits of broken cable out. I
can't see anything
that would hold back the gear mechanism.

Any idea what could be preventing the mast from coming out of the
housing?

the mast should come right out if the housing is opened up, mine did anyway

Maybe I'm not opening up the correct part of the housing? I removed
just one washer in the center of the round gear-cover and took that
cover off.

There are also one or two screws up higher, but I didn't remove
them because the seams in that area were coated with some kind
of moisture-proofing. Should I remove those screws as well?

Thanks Shawn. Are you saying that if I remove those additional
screws it should allow me to get to the source of the "stuck mast"
syndrome?
