Has anyone in the group any experience using the Sylvania SilverStar bulbs? Are they worth the extra cost?

Generic Xenons are cheaper and very bright.

Damn, boy, turn off your html. Hurts my eyes.

Osram Silverstars are better. Sylvanias are a waste of your money. And
there's more to it than just wattage:

I think (sometimes anyhow) that the Osram/Sylvania name is interchangeable.
If I try Osram, I get Sylvania when searching. Think I'll try a set as
literature looks good.
thanks

I've tried them. They are brighter than regular halogens, cheap,
wanna-be xenons, and even that the PIAA's. They're even cheaper than
the PIAA's and Katz. I can't swear to their longevity though. I've
had mine 15 months and they work fine. The PIAA's I've had for years
and they still work. Stay away from Katz. Mine kept blowing within
months.

Osram and Sylvania are the same. Osram was a German company that
Sylvania bought.

Osram Silverstars and Sylvania Silverstars are NOT the same, even though
the companies are related.

I was referring to the companies. As far as the products, I have
noticed both being sold with slight differences. I have the ones with
"Sylvania" on the box.

Osram Silverstars, made by Sylvania are great, well better than
standard Toys. The Sylvania Silverstars are a notch below the Osrams.
Look for them on eBay, they're pretty cheap from England and shipping
is minimal compared to US shippers.

Osram is a German (IIRC) based lighting company that bought the
Sylvania lighting line and name from GTE about 15 years ago, long
before the Verizon merger. They use the Sylvania brand name in the
USA mainly for the name recognition, and it's the exact same product.

Not according to Daniel Stern.

A quote from a post of his on Oct 21:
"Yeah, and they play confusing name games. North American "Sylvania
Silverstar" is "Osram Cool Blue" in the rest of the world. Rest-of-world
"Osram Silverstar" has no North American equivalent in the Sylvania line."
