My son Craig's Corolla FX 16 has been in two accidents this past week.
The
first was from his stopping at a yellow light, insteading of speeding up
like most people do. He got rear-ended, stopped to look at his bumper,
and
let the girl go *without* getting her info!!! When he got to school, he
realized the bumper actually was hanging on loosely, and therefore needs
to
be repaired. GRRRRRR

Not his fault - except he did not follow the correct process and get all of
the information from the other driver. Make him pay for the damage, since
there is no way he can collect from the driver that caused the damage. He
will learn what to do next time.

Oh, he knows - trust me!

Then Saturday night, he let his friend drive it, who was about to change
lanes when an SUV grazed the left front quarter panel, peeling the left
corner of the bumper like an orange peel, and shattering the signal light.

Oh, it gets better...

Craig's friend Mark does *not* have a license!

Better still...

He *fled* the scene, for fear of being caught without a license!

On this count, I would take the car away from your son. He should have
never allowed an unlicensed driver drive his car - NEVER! Plus,
considering Mark's behavior at the accident, I would suggest you have a
very serious discussion with Craig, Mark and Mark's parents. Cars kill
people every day, every hour. All the "I'm sorry!"s will never bring
someone back to life.

No shit - I haven't told the kid's dad yet, but I will. Craig didn't know
the guy had no license.

Still nothing from FHP, so I'm guessing the other guy blew it off

Likely wouldn't have mattered much in the long run Nat...the cars

in your name so you're responsible if anyone decides to sue. I
shudder at the possibilities for financial disaster in these
cases. WARN him, again and again, etc etc...he could ruin you for
life financially so easily..."I didn't know" doesn't cut it in
court.

I'm confused. If the other driver in the second accident was "doing
something wrong (passing
on the right at ludicrous speed, no less)" ,
how did that take out the LH fender and signal?

It sounds like they (the other car) were passing on the left, not the
right . Children do tell little fibs you know, even in late
adolescence.

Nat might be confused here, as someone suggested she may be

looking at the front (from the front).

Nat, you always describe the left and right side of any vehicle
as if you were sitting in it. (avoids confusion).

If we're wrong here please deliver one of your 'F'waps up side
the head'.

Perhaps staring at the girl is why he let her go. Listening to the wrong

I'm planning to break it to Mark's father this weekend - should be

interesting.

...OWWW.

Ok...so we were wrong...how did it happen then?...

The left front fender was damaged when the car was sideswiped by
a car passing on the right...
--

-Gord.

The SUV was weaving in and out of traffic without signaling. Getting
clearer?
