My son Craig's Corolla FX 16 has been in two accidents this past week. The
first was from his stopping at a yellow light, insteading of speeding up
like most people do. He got rear-ended, stopped to look at his bumper, and
let the girl go *without* getting her info!!! When he got to school, he
realized the bumper actually was hanging on loosely, and therefore needs to
be repaired. GRRRRRR

Then Saturday night, he let his friend drive it, who was about to change
lanes when an SUV grazed the left front quarter panel, peeling the left
corner of the bumper like an orange peel, and shattering the signal light.

Oh, it gets better...

Craig's friend Mark does *not* have a license!

Better still...

He *fled* the scene, for fear of being caught without a license!

We've called the Florida Highway Patrol, as well as our insurance. I made
it clear to the insurance company that I did *not* give that kid permission
to drive that car (It's still only in my and my husband's names; Craig's not
on the title). Further, I had told Craig when he first got the car that he
wasn't allowed to let friends drive it, unless Craig was so sick or hurt
that he needed to be taken to a hospital.

FHP says we're not liable, since I did not grant permission. I doubt the
other driver will report it, since they were doing something wrong (passing
on the right at ludicrous speed, no less). However, the other guy *did*
stop for the accident, according to my daughter Katie (Craig was not in the
car), but both Katie and Mark say the guy's car looked fine. It's now 48
hours since the accident, and we haven't heard from FHP. I'm trying to
decide whether to make a claim on these accidents, to help pay for it, or
just let it be until Craig can save up enough money to get it fixed. I've
also asked my family members if they know of any reasonable body shops.

The car runs just fine, has no left blinker; however the headlight is
intact.

June can't get here soon enough - either *I'm* Florida's jinx, or it's

The PERFECT excuse to get a girl's number and he didn't go for it?

My boys got rear ended on the expressway in stop and go traffic. They got
the policy number but not the insurance company of the kid that hit them, a
cell phone number, and a promise from the guy that he would call to make
arrangements to have our Avalon fixed. They called me to tell me what
happened, and I got them to use that nifty cell phone camera and take a
picture of the front of the car that hit them, including license number and
driver's smiling face. Also, the kid that hit them happened to be carrying
his dad's cell phone, and dad was not a happy camper when I called.
Luckily, dad was honest!

I vote for Mark to pay, with Craig as guarantor! Why should you take the
insurance hit if you don't have to?

LOL...

That LOL is laffin with you cause if we don't laff we'll kill the
damned kids...LOL

My Navy boy....

HAD to have a car when he was 17. I said NO...until you earn it.

His dad died and left him some life insurance. He bought a souped up
Firebird. 13 days later we got a call from the Florida Highway
Patrol. He had taken out a light pole on one of the keys. He was
fine. The race car was NOT. by the way a light pole is 600
bucks...in case anyone wants to know...lol

btdt...

Anyway.... You will NEVER outgrow the increase in insurance premium.
If you don't have to report it....DON'T would be my advice.

I'd have Craig pay for all damage.

If you want a very reasonable body shop and would like a lunch on
me...call North Port Body Shop in North Port Florida. They do
excellent work at about half the going rate. I have no idea how, but
they do.

Not his fault - except he did not follow the correct process and get all
of the information from the other driver. Make him pay for the damage,
since there is no way he can collect from the driver that caused the
damage. He will learn what to do next time.

On this count, I would take the car away from your son. He should have
never allowed an unlicensed driver drive his car - NEVER! Plus,
considering Mark's behavior at the accident, I would suggest you have a
very serious discussion with Craig, Mark and Mark's parents. Cars kill
people every day, every hour. All the "I'm sorry!"s will never bring
someone back to life.

I'm confused. If the other driver in the second accident was "doing
something wrong (passing
on the right at ludicrous speed, no less)" ,
how did that take out the LH fender and signal?

It sounds like they (the other car) were passing on the left, not the
right . Children do tell little fibs you know, even in late
adolescence.

Maybe the "Left" as she was looking at the damage from in front of the car?

I'm confused. If the other driver in the second accident was "doing
something wrong (passing
on the right at ludicrous speed, no less)" ,
how did that take out the LH fender and signal?

It sounds like they (the other car) were passing on the left, not the
right . Children do tell little fibs you know, even in late
adolescence.

The PERFECT excuse to get a girl's number and he didn't go for it?

He *did* mention she was hot...

Is he gay? Whats the world coming to :)

I'm with mark paying, craig guarantor crowd, but if he cant pay he takes
either a lone or pays you back over a time. And Mark gets a good kicking for
being irresponsible driverwise.

My son Craig's Corolla FX 16 has been in two accidents this past week.
The
first was from his stopping at a yellow light, insteading of speeding up
like most people do. He got rear-ended, stopped to look at his bumper,
and
let the girl go *without* getting her info!!! When he got to school, he
realized the bumper actually was hanging on loosely, and therefore needs
to
be repaired. GRRRRRR

Not his fault - except he did not follow the correct process and get all of
the information from the other driver. Make him pay for the damage, since
there is no way he can collect from the driver that caused the damage. He
will learn what to do next time.

Oh, he knows - trust me!

No shit - I haven't told the kid's dad yet, but I will. Craig didn't know
the guy had no license.

Still nothing from FHP, so I'm guessing the other guy blew it off

Nah, when you look at the car, you can see that what he said was true
