What is the primary reason you like Toyotas? |

For me, it is reliability. I know that it will always start and run
well if properly maintained. This is my primary reason.

You know, they are very reliable cars. I have had over a dozen, mostly
new, and most of them ran hunudreds of thoussands of miles (those that
didn't meet an untimely end...seemed I had a lot of people aiming at my
Toys back in the 70's...)
But it's more than just the reliability, though that is the big reason.
There is also the way the dashboards are laid out; when my wife bought a
Caravan ,the first thing I said was, "Wow, they laid out the controls like
a Toyota!"
There's comfort. I have had only a couple uncomfortable Toys, and I am a
big guy.
I like the 'seat of the pants' feel I get, and the steering feel.
Most of all, I like the way they are made. I am a tinkerer, and I 'modify'
my cars to personalize them, things like lighting, sound systems,
electronics, etc. I have had most of my Toyotas apart to varying degrees.
They are just VERY well made. I had a 90 Nissan 240SX, and noticed some
bits were held in with sheet metal screws. After owning it a year, I
decided to replace the interior under the hatch, as it was all busted up.
I found another with a mint interior, and upon taking the car apart,
noticed that A LOT of things on the car were held together with sheet
metal screws. In similar applications, Toyota used a bolt through a
welded-in nut. No wonder the Nissan rattled so much!
Now, if they had just made them a little more rust resistant... |

I love the way they copy all the other auto makers, using best ideas, and
implementing into their own cars. For example,. my Lexus ES 330 looks almost
identical on the ass end to a Mercedes e320. Japanese are great at copying
others and implementing those designs and technology innovations into cars
that actually work.

2005 Echo Hatchback, in Canada. My first Toyota, heck, my first NEW car
ever!
In that order :
Liked the model and style
Quite inexpensive if you considere what you get
Fuel economy
Great reliability reputation
Great resale value
I also liked the way the engine seem more cutting edge than competition,
like Chevy Aveo or Hyundai Accent : Aluminum block, VVTi and the fact
the Echo have more power despite smaller displacement. All this concur
to me as being a more techically advanced, efficient engine.
That was before the purchase. Now I'd add the "fun factor" as an
important point!

I thought this sounded familiar.
In the rest of the world, it is sold as a Yaris.
I was mixing up some paint for a Toyota and came across a formula for
'Yaris'. Had no idea what it was, but the formula looked interesting, so I
made up a half-pint.
It's a three stage paint. The first stage is a dark green that gets laid
down in two coats.
The next stage is a mid-coat, that consisted mostly of 'micas', or a
pearlescent flake color. It was mostly clear with red, gold and blue
flakes. This gets covered by a clear coat.
WOW! We shot a piece of metal with this, and it is a great color, esp in
the sun, as you move the metal the different colors come out.

But alas, nobody said they buy Toyotas for their
beauty or even because they look good. Look up ugly
in a dictionary and it will reference a half dozen different
Toyota models ;)

Scion isn't sold in Canada and, unlike the Echo hatch/xA, there are no
close substitutes for the xB and tC. So in the end, the U.S. still has
more Toyotas to choose from than Canada does. |

OK, so how about if you're like me? Maintenance? What's that? I run 'em
till they break, fix em, and run 'em till they break again! And I still
get 250+ thousand miles!

1. Reliability.
2. Longevity.
3. Reasonably good performance.
4. They aren't the classiest cars on the road, but at least they're not as
d****d ugly as an Aztec.
5. Like the VW Beetle of a previous generation, they have a good track
record.

79 Corolla (KE30, 4 speed)
80 Corolla SR-5 liftback (green)
80 Corolla SR-5 liftback (red)
93 Corolla (AE102) 7Y with overdrive AT
95 Previa LE S/C |

1) They are the absolute best in long-term reliability.
2) Best interior engineering.
3) Most reasonable maintenance and parts costs.
4) The way they always beat their competitors in overall design.
5) In some models, the way they style their cars like some models of
the MR2 (MK2 and MK3), Supra (MK2, MK3, and MK4), and Celica. The
Previa, Lexus SC, and Lexus GS are very nicely styled for their
market.
6) They are the best at engineering their cars to enhance the
long-term satisfaction of their customers even though they aren't
initially apparent.
7) They are the most efficient in building their cars.
8) They are the best at honoring the warranty items.
These are reasons are not because they are good at certain things, but
because they are the BEST at these things. |

Re: What is the primary reason you like Toyotas? |

My post was not intended to take anything away from Toyota.
Toyota does indeed built good tuff, I simply wanted to point out
the others will last a long time as well, IF properly
maintained. I recently had a carbon and valve job completed on
my 1971 Pinto. The car has 292K on the clock and this is the
first time the engine was opened. It probably would have lasted
even longer before it needed a valve job if I had better access
to the leaded gas it requires. Bye the way, if you do the PROPER
preventive maintenance the vehicle will be less likely to let you
down because you will catch things before they fail.
