The TE31/KE30 era (1975-79) Corolla?

Charles of Kankakee

No, I was talking the '80-83 model...

OK, I'm also looking for the '80 SR-5 liftback with the LONG hatch. I get
my terminology mixed up, was the long hatch the Hatchback or the Liftback?
I had two of those. Wrecked the first one on a WPA bridge over in
Mississippi.

Charles of Kankakee
The SR-5 Corollas came in coupe and liftback. I don't remember when the

Corolla SR-5's went from the boxy style to the rounded style with concealed
headlamps but the boxy style liftback was almost like a station wagon with a
sloped hatch while the coupe's rear deck went from the roof to the beltline,
kind of like a 60's era Mustang fastback. The Hard Top had a deck lid, what
most people would call a coupe.

The rounded style Corolla SR-5 coupe had a deck lid while the liftback had a
rear hatch from the roof to the beltline.

Dropped off #2 son at ISU, drove past all the Kankakee signs today. That's
a long commute from Kankakee to Barrington Rd. & Central, is near where I
live!

I have two places to live: Kankakee, and I have a small room at an
apartment complex in Schaumburg. I work near Barrington Rd and Central.
Do you know the Millrose Restaraunt? I work a couple doors south of there,
nearer the highway.

My brother's 81 was also a TE72, by then they were using the 17 digit

Why the jump between the 79 K/T3x and the 80 TE7x? Where there 4x,5x,

at 1NX as well as JT2 also marked as Chevy Novas and Geo Prisms. My

I wondered about myself too, so I did a bit of Googling:

If this page is accurate, it looks like the numeric designations applied to

The page also answers your questions about the 4 and 5-series cars.

My cars were most definitely TE72s, with the vertical hatchback. The '81's

Sorry to break up the mutual admiration society guys, but to those who
say they have seen models of the '98 Corolla and the new Prius, could
you please be more specific about where you saw them?

A specific web site perhaps?

Thanks,

Interesting. My two 80's were TE72-0424241 and TE72-0505668 and they had
the LONG hatch. David's was JT2TE72 and also had the long, not the vertical
hatch.

That explains a lot. We have had quite a few Toyotas, including a TA12 1972
Carina, a TE31 1977 Corolla, a KE30 1979 Corolla, 4 7 series Corollas and so
far 3 AE10x Corollas. And I think our Previa body number starts out AZB10-
or something like that.

I took the Dale Carnegie Course many years ago.

One of the things they put you through is to get up and talk about
yourself. You are supposed to make the other members of the class
remember your name.

There was this FOX that drove a Supra...

I shall NEVER forget her first name...

She said "You'll always remember me. If you spell my name backwards
you come up with I MOAN"...

Well, I started in 1974, too. We wore out the 72 Carina, the 77 Corolla,
(after a deer hit it) the 79 wore out the tranny and no one knew how to fix
it (turns out to be a 50 cent part!) Ran the green 80 into a WPA bridge

You need to pick different roads, my friend!

There are roads in Arkansas now? That's where I lived at the time.

We used to say there were no white lines on the edge of the highways because
a certain then-governor had sucked them up his nose.

Yes, I get around.

That's odd, both my TE7's were TE72's, but they had the LONG hatch
that nearly opened over the head of the rear passengers and the small,
rectangular window in front of the rear pillar followed by the LONG
triangular window behind. The TE71's then must have had the
trapezoidal window behind the front door and the trapezoidal window
behind the pillar.

My brother's 81 was also a TE72, by then they were using the 17 digit
VIN, but the TE72 number was stamped on the firewall. Mom had an '82,
hers was a TE75 notchback.

Why the jump between the 79 K/T3x and the 80 TE7x? Where there 4x,5x,
and 6x model Corollas? I know the 8x and 9x models were manufactured
at 1NX as well as JT2 also marked as Chevy Novas and Geo Prisms. My
AE102 is a 1NX, as is my sister's 95, but my mom's 94 is a JT2 - plant
0.

I wondered about myself too, so I did a bit of Googling:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/4883/crwd.html

If this page is accurate, it looks like the numeric designations
applied
to
more than one bodystyle.

The page also answers your questions about the 4 and 5-series cars.

My cars were most definitely TE72s, with the vertical hatchback. The
'81's
VIN began JT2TE729B and the '82's began JT2TE721C (not certain of last
two
digits of '82).

So, therefore, here is what I have had for Corollas:
KE25
KE30
TE71
AE86
AE82 (4 dr)

Also:
Corona, '72
Corona MKII, '71
Celica GTS '85
Supra, '88
Tercel, '83

You've got me beat by a country mile. I've only had a total of 6 Toyotas
since 1977 personally.

LOL! I started my 'collection' in 1974. Trouble is, I still own 4 of
them! Oh, I didn't mentio the 1994 LHS and the '92 Grand Voyager that I
also currently own! They all have a purpose, although the two '85's and
the Supra are just COOL (and the Celica and the Supra were steals!!!)

Well, I started in 1974, too. We wore out the 72 Carina, the 77 Corolla,
(after a deer hit it) the 79 wore out the tranny and no one knew how to fix
it (turns out to be a 50 cent part!) Ran the green 80 into a WPA bridge
abutment in MS, wore out the Red 80.

You need to pick different roads, my friend!

And I wonder who took her up on it...
