And 'Here'

So basically what mike said..but you aren't drying out your
evaporative coller so try to run no a/c, full blast outside air, maybe
add a bit of heat...(open the windows to help?)...(do this routinely for
prevention). And that last link...it's maybe you have a clog?

Basically try lysol once a week and do the above.

I would rethink that, if I were you. When operating the AC on
recirc one is re-cooling the dehumidified inside air. If you
switch to outside air you will INCREASE the amount of
condensation on the coil by introducing the more humid air
from outside. ;)

Don't forget to switch the air to out side air. I do this after long
rides, if you do the above every so often or even always, it's easy
insurance for your nose. The main idea is to get rid of the
condensed
water before it has a chance to sit.

I myself have done many things...including lysol or just running the
hose in the air inlet---whatever works.

dave.

errr...that last part...i meant when you have the air on==no a/c
switch,
fan to full blast, and air switch to out side air.

pre cabin filter days I used the Lysol bit. Worked real good.

I'd suggest doing it as you replace the cabin filter if the odor is
still there and not the filter itself stinking.

Ernie, you have a "cabin" filter and debris will end up there.

To reduce the moisture in the first place, I read somewhere that it is a
good idea to shut off the AC a couple of minutes before you reach your

Good answer. I had been doing that already, and while it doesn't completely
eliminate the problem, it does help substantially.

Hi Natalie,

I have heard of the fart smell and this is not it. This is a damp/mildew
smell. If I shut off the AC and let the fan run several minutes before I
shut off the car, it is much improved. If I shut off the car with the AC
running, I get a blast of damp, swampy-smelling air the next time I start
the car. If I don't use the AC, there's no smell when I start the car.
Many other vehicles have this problem, it is not unique to Toyota at all.

Just wanted to say thanks to all who responded. I will check the cabin air
filter first, and if that's not it, I'm going to try Frigi Fresh.

My Toy dealer has a kit with a tube you hook to the drain and fill up
the condenser in the car. It flushes the whole mess out.

As I recall it is about 12 bucks or they will do it for about 50

They could google, yes, but they also wanted opinions. I think people
post for opinions as much as they want facts.

Not directed towards this thread: Your doc tells you it's unhealthy
to jump off of a bridge, But a red headed hotty think's it's cool to
try to see under neath the bridge...what are ya gonna do? Or people
buy things based on friend's, or suposed User opinions..ie...the
tornados for car intakes.

and the other reason....it wasn't too much out of the way for me.
