Fule line fun |

Ok all...I haven't gone away...I've just been buried in work...and not the
fun kind. I'm hoping to spend the weekend working on the car (I'm still
dreaming)....
Anyway, I've discovered a leak in the fuel line, I think just in front of
the transmission support brace. I haven't traced it down exactly, but it
looks like someone turned a lunatic loose with steel lines and a bender
under there. I think it was rubbing up there and has rubbed through. In
any case, there is a wet spot just on the frame just in front of the
driver's door. Here comes the questions:
Is the fuel line a single solid piece all the way back to the tank or is it
in sections? As I was tracing it back, I saw what looks like a protective
metal tube around the lines...both brake and fuel. They only go up to about
half way up the back doors. If they're there to protect the line, shouldn't
they go all the way to the front?
Any suggestions for types of fuel lines or how best to bend them? Or can I
buy pre-bent stuff?

I would cut out any bad sections, clean up the ends and replace with a
good flexable fuel line hose. Use airplane clamps and watch out for any
chafing points that could rub through the flexable hose.
Heck, you could replace the whole system with flexable hose....Watch
out around hot tailpipes and mufflers.

Hey Dan,
Thanks. I may just replace the whole thing and be done with it. I think
the guy who replaced it before had a few too many before he started. I'm
sure its rubbed against the tranny support. I'm afraid he did the same with
the brake lines too. They all follow the same line, flat against the bottom
of the driver's side frame rail...then jump over the tranny support to the
back. When he got to the engine compartment...looks like he started hitting
the hard stuff...looks like a dog's hind leg in there.
Thanks for the tip! I'll be running to Advanced tomorrow to see if I can
pick some up. I'm hoping the immediate problem with the brakes is a rear
wheel cylinder, but I haven't pulled the rears off yet to check.
BTW, I did try sending emails to your accounts the last time, but both
bounced back saying full. Hope the spammers have let up by now.

I don't know if your vehicle has a single piece fuel line or not but I
have 2 solutions for you.
1. Aluminum fuel lines. Most speed shops carry rolls in lengths of
25'. Summit and Jegs should be able to help you.
2. There are companies that make exact fit lines. I talked with a
vendor at a swap meet/car show and I liked their product. I don't
know if they'll have what you need but it's worth a try.

Ron,
Thanks. Jegs is only about a 20 minute drive for me (to get to the
warehouse). I had never heard of Right Stuff before...and they're even
closer. I'll give them a call Tuesday and see what I can find out. I may
still opt to go with Dan's flex tube idea, at least for the time being. At
some point, I'll be taking her down to the frame for a complete restore.
Right now I'm more interested in getting and keeping her road worthy until
I'm feeling rich enough to start down that path.
