American Hot Rod |

Can't believe tonights episode of forsaid Discovery Channels, Americn
Hot Rod. They ( Boyd Coddingtons Shop) took a beautiful 1936 Ford banjo
steering wheel rust free coupe and cut the freeking top off to make a
freeking roadster. I won't sleep tonight.

Well, in all fairness, how did they get their hands on it? Why hadn't
someone already restored it?
Sometimes even a die-hard hot rodder like me thinks it would be nice if
certain original cars got saved, but if restorers are up in arms, why didn't
they save the cars first?

Rabbit its like..I don't mind making a roadster out of a coupe.....I
just don't want to _see_ them cut the top off. I was in a top shop one
time and was taken aback when the guy air chiseled the roof of a brand
new TransAm for T-tops....I had to turn my back.

C'mon, it only hurts for a minute. They make the cut, dab on a little
iodine, and it's all over.

While typing I was going to make a comparison to a beautiful women,
she's beautiful before she gets pregnant and she's beautiful while
pregnant. When the baby is born it is beautiful......
I just don't care to watch going from step two to step three!!!

I watch that show, and I'll tell you... with the crap that goes on there, I
wouldn't take my bicycle there to let 'em put air in the tires.
Besides, the episode where his painter (who'd finally had enough) decided to
leave... the way Boyd treated him, acting like a child having a tantrum...
sheesh. What a loser.
That Duane guy's also a real jerkoff. If I had to work with him, I think I'd
beat him with a muffler.
Then again, you have the morons on "Overhaulin'"... the chick's useless, and
Foose seems to like nothing better than to take nice cars and turn them into
crappy junk with cheesy paint, and of course, always a set of his (boring)
wheels. I wanted to fly to the west coast and kill him when he did the
Barracuda. Auugh!

Its a TV program. Its there to make money and ratings. Controversy creates
money and ratings. Cutting up collectable cars is controversial. They really
don't give a shit about history, honesty or your feelings. It's just about
money. Most of them would kill the last Bald Eagle if they thought it would
make them a buck. Sad aint it. Its what we have become. We just love to sit
and scream at that hunk of electronics and plastic. |

Most of the crap is staged. But I don't know why they agreed to it, because
it certainly makes the shop look bad. Coddington must be making more money
off the TV than he is off building cars.

Money Talks....
I have to honestly say although "Mr" Coddington
may be raking in a pile of money...the TV Show has greatly demisnished
my respect for him....not his products... If I were an employee I do
not think I would last until 10 AM on my first day before I just
walked out the door...

At least Foose does quality bodywork and displays some mechanical skill.
Don't get me started on those jagoffs on "Pimp My Ride..." bondo is not
rust repair!

No, I'll give him that. I guess some of the people who's cars on on there
just don't care that their cars would be worth more if all that work went to
return them to "like new" stock condition.

Gawd, someone should toss a hand-grenade into the set of that show. I watched
it once, and that was enough to cause a gag reflex.
Then we have "Full Throttle", which is pretty stupid, and I can't see that
going too long. After all, how many times can we be shown some crappy cars
get new headers, a tune up, and NOX added to them. Boring.
"Rides" started out promising, then slid right downhill too.

In my original post, I guess what I was trying to put across was, Why
take a beautiful 36 coupe and cut the top off?
Now that car will _never_ be a 1936 Ford coupe _again_....Never
ever.........
It will be lost to the old car world forever.
It is now in the world of a “ Beautiful 1936 award winning roadster
FAKE.
I went along, years ago, with cutting up cars to make “ Kustoms” I
watched Barris mold 50's cars into lead sleds. I thought they were the
cats ass. But no longer..
Yikes time to get off the soap box.

Look at it this way -- all the "genuine" '36 Ford coupes have just become
that much more valuable.
And it's not lost. It was lost when it was sitting around, unrestored (and
apparently with no one willing to do it). Now it's out there driving around.

In many cases, they're not. A great many hot rods get built because it isn't
an economically sound decision to restore them; you put more money into them
that they're worth restored.
