Replace Avensis Stereo - Remove Center Facade |
|
|
Hi, I recently bought a '98 Avensis, and I'd like to replace the
standard tape deck that's sitting in the centre console.
I've replaced stereos in cars before, but I can't see how to remove
the facade on the centre instrument column. I'm assuming that once I
get the column off, the unit will be accessible.
Can anyone suggest how to get the panel off? Are there clips hidden
anywhere? and how do I get to them?
Thanks!

Usually, but NOT always, the trim piece is just held to the column with
plastic clips. On some Toyota models (Celica comes to mind) there are
screws at the top or bottom - like where the colum meets the ashtray, so
check for these first. To remove the panel I use a wide blade screwdriver
with the end covered in electrical tape (to prevent scratching) inserted
under the side edge of the trim. Start at the bottom. Then pry up
carefully. Once you can get your hand under the edge of the trim you can
just pull straight out and the trim will pop out. |
