Any advice on buying an A6 |

Hi,
I'm looking to buy an a6, poss. 2.5tdi (in the range of 1998 -2000 ). Is
there anything I should look out for or know problem with this car?

So far I have found little mention of problems with these cars so I'm off
this afternoon to test drive and hopefully buy!.

- Check if the engine is leaking oil. There's a service bulletin
covering the change of some of the oil circuit (which was done on my
car at the beginning free of charge).
If that's not done the oil sieve at the crankshaft housing vent will
get slightly jammed up and the pressure in the crankshaft housing will
increase pressing the oil out through the seals.
- There is another service bulletin covering the change of the post
heating of the AFM.
Coming out of the factory at some of these models the AFM wire was
heated for a minute after engine shutdown to remove any deposits. This
had exactly the opposite effect and some oil fumes coated the wire,
being burned into it by the post heating phase. The technical bulletin
says to cut the heating wire and to route a new one from the
electronics box directly to the AFM. That one would then only heat the
AFM during engine operation.
Check the suspension in the front. They didn't call it recall but made
a check of the front suspensions on the Passat and the A6 of about
that age for inceasing tolerances on rubber bushes.
Apart from that: GO BUY ONE. I love mine.
