I recommend for you to get the Helm manuals and study up on the tire pressure
system. First of all, the system does not detect tire pressure. The wheel
sensors (related to ABS) can count how many revolutions each individual tire is
making for a given distance traveled. So, if all four tires show "100" turns
for a given distance, then that probably means that they all have the same
circumference, which is related to tire inflation. If three tires show "100"
and one tire shows "90", then that is a problem. The system does not know for
sure which tire it is, or exactly how bad it is, but one tire is odd. The
system is not required to post an alarm if the pressure is within ten pounds of
correct, but if it is outside ten pounds, then it should alarm.
With your old tires, they may have worn to slightly different circumferences,
but if the system was reset to learn those new factors, then they expected to
see that continue. When you put new tires on, they may be all the same size and
inflation, but that is different from what the system expected from the old
tires. So, if you know for sure that the new tires are good and inflated
correctly, simply reset the system to what you have now and be on your way.
