I recently purchased a 2003 Park Avenue and I had a new set of tires put on
this weekend. I went up one size on the tires, which I ok'ed with the tire
company and now the tire pressure warning comes on the control panel. I've
checked the tires and they all seem to have the correct pressure...I'm
wondering how this warning light is sensing tire pressure and what I can do
to remedy the warning coming on.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Sounds like the TPM has to be recalibrated.

1. Set all tire pressures to specification
2. Turn ignition "ON", with engine "OFF".
3. Press the "GAGE INFO" button until "TIRE PRESSURE" is displayed.
4. Press and hold the "RESET" button until "TIRE PRESSURE NORMAL" is
displayed.
6. Use scan tool to clear the TPM DTC.

The TPM then apparently need 30 minutes of straight line driving in each of
three speed ranges to correctly calibrate itself. 15-40mph, 40-70mph and
70-90mph.

Send me your e-mail address and I can e-mail you a couple of PDFs on the
matter.

I recommend for you to get the Helm manuals and study up on the tire pressure
system. First of all, the system does not detect tire pressure. The wheel
sensors (related to ABS) can count how many revolutions each individual tire is
making for a given distance traveled. So, if all four tires show "100" turns
for a given distance, then that probably means that they all have the same
circumference, which is related to tire inflation. If three tires show "100"
and one tire shows "90", then that is a problem. The system does not know for
sure which tire it is, or exactly how bad it is, but one tire is odd. The
system is not required to post an alarm if the pressure is within ten pounds of
correct, but if it is outside ten pounds, then it should alarm.

With your old tires, they may have worn to slightly different circumferences,
but if the system was reset to learn those new factors, then they expected to
see that continue. When you put new tires on, they may be all the same size and
inflation, but that is different from what the system expected from the old
tires. So, if you know for sure that the new tires are good and inflated
correctly, simply reset the system to what you have now and be on your way.
