Optima Battery on Classic Car |
|
|
I recently acquired a 1960 Nash Metropolitan. The battery section contains a
fairly new looking Optima battery which does not seem to be holding a
charge.
Anyone else out there using an Optima battery in their older car?
Experience? Suggestion to replace with standard sealed battery?
Thanks - Jeff

Before you throw out the battery, check your charging system.
Assuming the generator is original equipment, it only puts out 16-20
amps and this may seem like a trickle charge to the battery.

To make sure there isn't something wrong with the V regulator etc.,
disconnect a battery cable and insert a 12V test light in series. With all
electrical turned off (including the dome light) the bulb won't light
unless there is a current flow.
Have you given the battery a full charge and had it tested?
