Newsflash! Ford is doing this within several weeks of a model's

I haven't sat in the 500 yet but the interior looked nicer than my 2001
Avalon XLS. Someone mentioned thick pillars between the front and back
door. I was back at the mall and noticed it today. Could be a real
problem.

Hey, Art, haven't really seen one yet? Big, but not like the Crown Vic,
Bigger than a Taurus, sorta ugly, and a cheap interior. For should have
put a little more into it before releasing it. Also, check the price.

I have been in a 500 and, I can't imagine anyone in a Toyota
newsgroup calling the 500's interior cheap. It is far more
attractive than any Camry I've ever been in. And the price
was astonishingly low - of course since I was shopping for a
truck, almost all cars seem to be dirt cheap.

Relative, Ed. I don't pay $30,000 for Toyotas....yet. I would expect that
for that money the dash should be a lot better than what I've been reading
about in the Ragazines. Perhaps they had an early production model and
Ford actually listened for once...

They did not have a 91 Taurus. Those's AT's fell apart around 40k miles
because of internal rubber seal failures.

The last Ford (okay, Mercury) I owned required me to drive it on pre-planned
routes that were near auto parts houses - and, no, I'm not kidding. Carried
a tool set in the trunk. Boiled over and popped freeze plugs out like mad.
Hoses were always blowing as were radiators. Sometimes I wondered if it was
a steam engine the way it's cooling system was. Conversely, the GM car I
have now is still on the original hoses at 119,000 miles (I'm pushing it)
whereas the Ford blew them out every 20K or so.

I found it amusing when Ford re-wrote their "Fix it once and never pay for
it again" warranty. What a joke! It was even in the front of the owner's
manual. Loved how the thing made my mechanic, who loved to say "I really
like Fords," a wealthy man. Nice job of putting the computer atop the
engine and becoming victim to its heat demise. That V-6 aluminum was really
a joke. Even managed to bend a main on the crank. Go figger.

Now their new Triton (?) engine is blowing out the threads in the head
holding the spark plugs in the truck forum. Nice job.

Every manufactures newest models are being built to meet the up
coming federal rollover and side intrusion standards, hence
beefier pillars and higher window sills. Look at the 300 and the
Mustang they have them as well.

You may not like or want to buy a Ford 500 but the opinion you
are spreading is not correct. The 3.5L from the 2006 Milan and
the Zephyr will be offered as on option on the high end 2006 500.
The 3.0L will remain standard on the base model.. I would
suggest you drive a 500 before you say it is under powered, it is
not. The 3.0L V6, with the six speed automatic and the CVT on
FWD 500's both out performs the 3.5 in the Chrysler and the
Avalon V6 all the while getting better fuel economy

Ford knows what their vehicles are worth...

Apparently Toyota buyers don't since they routinely pay
thousands extra for mediocre vehicles (or to use a friend's
terminology - extra ordinary vehicles).

Seems to me it is a bit disingenuous to judge all Toyotas or any

mike hunt

There is the one I owned, the one my SO owned, the three
different Toyota trucks neighbors have owned, the Toyotas
owned by co-workers, etc. Clearly the one I owned was the
worst I have personally been around, but none of the others
I am personally familar with could be classed as
outstanding, or even above average. They were all tinny,
cramped, and of average to less than average reliability.
The funny thing is, at least 4 of the 8 former owners I am
close to still talk about Toyotas in glowing terms (despite
my low opinion of the particular Toyotas they owned). One
guy has owned two Toyota trucks and raves about them -
despite having to rebuild the engine once and transmission
twice in one (funny thing is - despite "loving" Toyotas, he
has a Chevy truck now). I am not opposed to owning a Toyota
again. I do like the Tundra and would buy one if it was a
few thousand less. I just get tired of all the claims about
how great Toyotas are. I have seen too many that aren't so
great to fall for the hype. In general I think Toyotas are a
poor value. Shoppping for pick-up re-enforced that opinion.
Although I will have to say, the Tundra is a bargin compared
to either the Chevrolet Colorado (too small), or the Nissan
Titan (too yuck and too expensive).

Well I didn't have a '91 Taurus, but I did have a '86 Sable
and a '89 Taurus. Neither had transmission problems. I kept
the '86 for 10 years and 140,000 miles. I sold it to a
friend who drove it another 60,000 miles before he stuffed
it into a tree. It was probably the best all around car I
ever owned.

To be more specific:

http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/09/pf/autos/dissappointing_best_new_cars/index.htm

It doesn't say that Ford thinks the engine is weak and noisy. It does say
that they are adjusting production.

Readjusting production how? They are not changing the engine
"now." In fact the article doesn't even say they are
changing the engine at all. After reading the article, I
have the feeling it was written by someone has hasn't
actually driven a 500 (or possibly even looked at one) and
that the information probably came from this newsgroup or
another "authoritative" internet source.

All three of the cars mentioned in the article were accused
of having "bland" styling. But is there anything blander
than a Camry? Or uglier than an Echo? The guy that wrote the
article apparently thought the original GTO was the height
of styling - so much for his opinions matching mine.
