I can only assume you have not driven a 500, if you believe that
it is under powered.

That may be, but Ford is still changing the engine.

And THAT isn't going to make happy campers of those who've

You forgot to say in my opinion.. We see a lot of
Fords in fleet service with super high mileage's that
are still trouble free. ;)

One should not expect to get accurate information about Fords
from guys in an anti Ford NG like this NG. The 500 is not a
Camry competitor. Like the Chrysler 300 the Ford 500 is classed
as full sized car, not a mid size car like the Camry, although
the V6 Camry cost thousands more. Ford is not changing the
engine, what they will be doing in the fall is offering the new
3.5 V6, that is standard in the 2006 Milan and Zephyr, as an
option on high end 500 models. The current 2L 24V engine, with
the six speed and CVT trannys, is quite capable of out performing
others with V6 engines with up to 50 HP more, while still getting
superior fuel mileage. The 500 easily out performs the more
expensive 300 and Avalon
with larger V6's in 0 to 60, 1/4 mile, 50 MPH to 80 MPH
times/speeds If you really want something with big balls in the
Camry V6 price range, drive a 300 HP Mustang GT, awesome

Why so? Toyota has changed Camry engines numerous times.
Most Camry owners I know don't seem to mind. Are you
implying that Ford owners are better informed and a more
dicerning group than Toyota owners?

Seems to me it is a bit disingenuous to judge all Toyotas or any
brand for that matter good or bad, by the one you once owned.

Well my parents have owned nothing but Fords since 1957, and
they never had an engine or transmission failure. I only
wish I could have said the same for the Toyocrap I owned.

The certainly do, it is called VALUE. Otherwise we would all buy
Rolls Royce cars. Buyers by Fords because they know value when
they see it. Surely the Lexus is the best Toyota, yet enough
buyers chose the Camry for it value to make it the number on
selling car in the US. Same can be said for the Ford F150 #1
seller in America for 27 years, the Explorer the best selling
midsize SUV for 16 years, the Escape best selling small SUV for 4
years, Crown Vic, Focus, Econoline etc., value for the dollar
that what smart buys want the best value for their money. ;)

Hey, Art, haven't really seen one yet? Big, but not like the Crown Vic,
Bigger than a Taurus, sorta ugly, and a cheap interior. For should have
put a little more into it before releasing it. Also, check the price.

I have been in a 500 and, I can't imagine anyone in a Toyota
newsgroup calling the 500's interior cheap. It is far more
attractive than any Camry I've ever been in. And the price
was astonishingly low - of course since I was shopping for a
truck, almost all cars seem to be dirt cheap.

What are you doing here in Toyota newsgroups? You'd better go to
alt.autos.ford to praise these marvels of engineering.

Do you mean to say you don't think the number one selling car in
the US, the Camry, is not a good value. Something does not get to
be number one unless buyers think of it as a good value. I thing
Toyota makes great cars. What are you doing here if you don't
like Toyotas anyway? ;)

Relative, Ed. I don't pay $30,000 for Toyotas....yet. I would expect that
for that money the dash should be a lot better than what I've been reading
about in the Ragazines. Perhaps they had an early production model and
Ford actually listened for once...

Hey, I have to admit, Ford has come a Loooong way since the late
70's/early 80's. We sell a lot of Fords, and I really like them. We had a
Sable, and I was really considering selling the Tercel to buy it, it was
so nice. It had 58,000 miles and we were asking $3750. A friend bought it
for $3200 and loves it. Then I woke up, and sold the Tercel to get the
money to buy the Supra! ;)

If I couldn't get a Corolla or a Camry, I'd gladly buy an Escort (um,
isn't that mostly Mazda?) or a Taurus/Sable (3.0 litre only, of course)

But you like the Crapsler 300!!!

Now that is one ugly piece of iron...

Uh, you mean the 2005 Checker Marathon?

The 'beauty' of a Marathon...is that you can get in/out easily...

Just like a London Taxi...

I believe I told the story of seeing a Marathon, all decked out (opera
lighting, etc) in a supermarket parking lot in Pittsfield, MA and
discovering it belonged to Arlo Guthrie...

To be more specific:

http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/09/pf/autos/dissappointing_best_new_cars/index.htm

It doesn't say that Ford thinks the engine is weak and noisy. It does say
that they are adjusting production.

Listen carefully, Mike. It's FORD that is making the decision
to do a re-motor on the model. It's FORD that has decided it's
too noisy and under-powered.
