I’m new here and would appreciate any helpful advice. I own a 2004
MDX. I believe I had a blowout last night on my rear left tire. The
car is under a year old.

The tire and rim are factory installed (included with the touring
package). Michelin tire , which is shreaded due to the blowout.
Should this be covered under any type of warranty and also would Acura
cover any cost which I may incur being the rim is most likely damaged
and I’ll need to purchase a new rim ?

I live in New Jersey and am wondering if I will get hit with a huge
bill by going to the dealer or if I would be better off going to a
local tire shop for this.

Thanks for the feedback,
Joe

Read the tire warranty in your glove box. If the warranty has not expired, then
you'll probably get a new tire from Michelin. Go to a Michelin dealer; Acura
will not be interested in talking to you because no part of a new vehicle
warranty applies to any expendable parts (tires, batteries, windshield wipers,
etc.)

In general, damage to the rim due to a flat are your problem. This on the
grounds that unless the tire failed catestrophically at high speed (in which
case you'd probably have vastly more problems than a damaged rim), you could
have simply stopped the car and put on the spare. Very often, rim damage is a
sign that you ran the tire flat long enough for the tire to disintegrate...this
will be obvious to the Michelin dealer when the remains are inspected; and
their opinon is the one that counts.
