Because of the fire codes, I have a need to disconnect the batteries from
several different cars that I store inside a building and it could be for
more than a week. I have heard that this can cause problems with the
computer. If I were to every day reconnect the battery for a short time,
would this alleviate any problem? Is there a device (like a battery
charger) that only puts out a small amount of charge that will keep the
computer up? Thanks

I'm sure you can purchase a device that plugs into the cig. lighter to

keep the computer's memory in tact while one removes a cable from/replaces
batteries. **Bet the same fire code would apply, tho', to anything you find
to accomplish your task, so surely check before wasting your $.** s

The computers forget all the programming and the vehicles will run and
idle like crap while it remembers.

One trick used when changing batteries is to use alligator clips and
wires and to clip a regular 9 volt battery between the cables just
before removing them. This will hold the computer for a short time. I
have no idea for how long a 9 volt would last.

A trickle charger hooked on the cables would likely do the same I would
think.... They make one or two amp ones for long term battery storage/
maintenance or to keep the battery warm in really cold places. I once
had one hooked to my block heater cord so the battery stayed warm when
the engine needed to stay warm.
