Hello,

The driver's side indoor latch stops working in the cold weather. The
outside handle opens the door but one has to put the window down and reach
out to open the door from inside the car. The inside latch is freely moving
on its pinion point with no resistance. All the vacuum mechanisms work
except for the trunk lock, which now just spins in the socket and is
nonoperational.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Steve

There is a lot of plastic pieces inside the door. There is a steel cable
that runs from the inside door handle to the lock mechanism. I've seen these
cables break out of their plastic connections with the lock mechanism. They
tend to be the first thing to wear. Even easier problem could be that the
cable came unlatched from the inside door handle. The door trim panel isn't
hard to remove on an A6. Should be one small screw at outer door jam near
window and another one at the exact opposite point on inner door jam near
hinges. Then, if memory serves, just pick up on the door panel and it should
come up and out.
There's a lot of stuff connected to it so don't pull out hard, then you'll
be able to see whats happening with the cable.
Good Luck
