How many miles on original suspension? |
|
|
I've got 70K miles on a 2001 Nissan Frontier. Probably 90% are
highway miles. The supension has been feeling a little soft. I feel
like I'm rolling more from side to side when turning/changing lanes.
I also feel like I don't have the traction I should have on irregular
surfaces (i.e., pavement cracks and minor washboarding) due to tire
bouncing. I hear a disconcerting suspension-related creaking from
under the front end. That may be at least part of the problem. It
may also be that I'm no longer running the tires at max. pressure.
But I have to wonder how many miles the original shocks, struts,
whatever we're designed for. Is 70K about right? Overdue? No
problem? If I were to replace with upgraded parts, what would folks
recommend? FWIW, I also still have the original tires, though they
seem to have pretty good tread still.
Thanks,
-Scott

If your tires have 70,000 miles, I think that you would notice a
significant improvement with new tires. Don't skimp here, but a premium
set - ie: Michelin. Badly worn tires will cause almost all of the
symptoms that you describe. Maybe not the creaking.
