One day last week I met a dude at Chevy with a derelict of an 85 LeSabre
2 door.

Anyway

The guy bought a the plastic chrome plated push on knob that slides over
the end of the rear window defrost swith - lever. There is a yellow
light that shines through the switch - lever & knob when the defroster
is turned on.

With the ignition off, when he would press and hold the spring loaded
defroster lever to the ON position, the light would go on, then went off
when it was released.

His question to me was should the light be going on when the lever is
pushed to ON while the ignition is off?

I couldn't give him an answer, not that it really matters, but it is
intriging.

My 88 Celebrity does the same thing, if you hold the switch in the on
posistion with the ignition off, the light turns on. I have no idea if that
actually turns on the defroster too.
