i am having problems with my girlfriends 2000 nissan maxima se ... i believe its the shift lock solenoid. it will not release out of park and you have to use the shift lock override every single time. is it under the console and do you actually have to go through the dealer or would a transmission shop have it because the dealer wants 140 for this. thanks

I have the same problem with our 2000 Maxima, I was told it was the SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID, but I'm not sure and I'm looking for clarification if anyone has advise.
