Exploring possible problems. 1992 pickup |
|

Hi all;
I have a 1992 toyota pickup. 22R engine. 5 speed manual transmission.
237,000 Km.
This engine has been showing increasing difficulties at idle when warm. It has been tending to run slower and rougher at idle.
The truck has been serviced and maintained by Toyota on their schedule for light duty service. Most miles have been highway at about 60 MPH. Still getting 35 to 38 MPG.
I ran into a bit of a puddle a couple of weeks ago, and had some water enter the intake manifold and one or two cylendars. It took about 10 minutes for the water to drain down into the pan.
The oil and filter have been changed, as have the spark plugs and air filter.
The engine now will not idle when warm without some throttle applied. Removing the oil filler cap shows quite a bit of blowby. With the cap removed, the engine will idle slowly and roughly.
I really don't want to go into the engine unless absolutely necessary.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help;
Pat
