JBL AM/FM 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer w/7 Speakers (EJ)
AM/FM 6-disc In-Dash CD Changer w/6 Speakers (EV)

Of these two optional audio systems above for the Toyota Matrix, does
the more expensive JBL system sound that much better than the other?

OK, if I was to get NEITHER of the above audio systems and therefore
have the base unit only, what would be some recommended audio systems
I should consider installing aftermarket? (Money is not too much of
an object, but I'm not into volume in audio - quality of sound is much
more important than volume. I don't turn up the volume that high.)
Different features/flexibility might be more important, for example,
being able to easily play MP3s or hook into another digital/satellite
audio network, etc.

Definitely save your cash and go aftermarket. Those factory speakers are
crap. Crutchfield.com is the source for all you need. Call and talk to one
of their advisors. I swear it's the last company on the planet that has
friendly and knowledgeable people on the other end (and not in India or
the Carribean, either). Those guys will help you find what fits & sounds
best.

Go for an Alpine deck, I have a 9845 on my Corolla. It does have an aux
input at the back, only this I wished that Alpine had put it in the front
instead of the back of the unit. And I have a pair of 6.5" JL audio
speakers in the back, or Infinity speakers will sound sweet as well. The
stock front speakers I plan on changing soon, maybe on boxing day :)

I have a JVC MP-3 Player in the Supra, with MB Quart stealth-mounted all
the way around; 6.5" in front, 5" in rear.

All on E-Bay for about $140...
