I have been through the "parts issue" with Ford. Very creative stories;
the only factory that makes the part I need burned down and then the
only warehouse storing the remaining supply also burned down. I am not
sure if there is a US law that says a car company must keep "x"number of
years of parts available for a model. Even if there was a law, the
company could get around it by saying they did not anticipate that
particular part failing a such a high rate. If a company goes bankrupt,
those laws may not apply. Does Yugo ring any bells?
