service engine light |
|
|
Just today the service engine light started appearing on the dash of our
2002 Ford Escort. It currently has approx. 48,000 miles. Anyone have any
idea what this could mean?

Usually the SES light associated with emmisions control. I usually do
the simple fix of checking the gas cap. I unscrew it, inspect it, and
then tighten per instructions. An inpropperly installed gas cap has
been the majority of SES lights I've seen for a while.
imho,

It means that one of the various sensors has signaled the computer |
that there is a problem of some sort. It might just mean your gas cap
is loose. You'll need to get the codes scanned.

what motor?? if it is a 3.8, it is most likely the intake gasket if it is
leaking outside the motor.if it is leaking inside, it is a head gasket, but
my money is on the intake.

It means you car manufacturer want some more of your money. They set
these idiot lights to go off at a specific milage so they can suck
some more money out of you. If the car runs fine, ignore the light.
If the light bothers you, put a piece of duct tape over it, or remove
the bulb. I got a chevy, that light has been coming on and off for
over a year. The car runs fine. I put tape over it to avoid the
glare.
There's always someone trying to rib you of your money !!! |

Wrong advice????? Is that the best you can do? How about the right
advice?
It means that the car is preset to warn you that a service interval is
about due. This could mean tune up, brakes, timing belt, etc. If you
like your car (it's a Ford and I can't say why you would), get it
serviced or inspected as per the instructions in the book in the glove
box. While this may cost a few bucks now, it is designed to save you
bigger bucks down the road when something you are not aware of finally
lets go. It does not mean it must be done at a Ford dealer shop.
And Yes, Ford did say "if everyone bought genuine Ford parts, we could
afford to give our cars away". Meaning there is more money in
repairs and selling parts, than in building and selling cars. |
