I'm about to change the oil on a recently acquired A6 (2.6 litre V6
engine). Is removal of the engine shield self-explanatory?

yes just climb under and undo all those special Audi claps and it all falls
away.

Removal is easy. Putting it back, now, that's a knack. You need three hands
and the ability to reach both wheelarches simultaneously.
